On the day you train alone,
the stranger beside you is the first responder.

Train alone. Never go down unknown.

A dawn run, a weekend ride, a solo climb. When you go down, the person beside you is a passer-by, not family. One second with their phone shows your blood type, your medication and whom to call.

Recreational athletes
Who it is for

For people who run, ride, hike, swim or play golf in their own time, and for the clubs they train with.

When you go down, nobody beside you knows who you are

  • Sports accidents mostly happen when you are alone: a heart problem, low blood sugar, a fall, heat stroke. The first person to reach you is usually a stranger.
  • A passer-by can call emergency services, but cannot say who you are, what you take or whom to call. Your phone is locked and your wallet is in the car.
  • Older club members who train on heart or blood-pressure medication carry that list in their head, not on their body.
  • Sports kit has no room for an ID, and a paper card does not survive sweat, rain, sea water or pool chlorine. On a mountain trail there may be no signal at all.

Sunday dawn, riverside cycle path

  1. Last month

Club registration session. In three steps in the free WaveMed app, Mark, 58, saves only what he chooses to his club-logo band: blood type, diabetes emergency information (he uses insulin), his wife's number. He writes down the four-digit PIN that appears, and puts the same details on the club sticker on his helmet. Since then he logs his blood sugar in the app before every long ride.

  2. 06:10

Riding alone along the river at dawn on Sunday, well past his usual turn-around point, Mark turns shaky and confused. He pulls over and slumps on the verge, his phone locked in his jersey pocket. A rider he has never met stops, but Mark cannot answer him.

  3. 06:12

The rider holds his own phone, which has WaveMed on it, to the blue cross on Mark's wristband for one second: name, blood type, diabetes emergency information, uses insulin, wife's number. He tells the dispatcher exactly who has collapsed and that he uses insulin.

  4. 06:24

The paramedics arrive already knowing he has diabetes and uses insulin. One second with 𝒱WaveMed on the helmet sticker confirms his blood type and emergency information. It reads, and changes nothing.

  5. 06:40

The rider calls Mark's wife on the number from the patch and passes on the hospital the crew named. Mark's phone is still locked in his pocket; what spoke for him was the band he filled in at last month's session.

Your kit speaks for you, on a stranger's phone

  • Where you already wear it: a 25 × 25 mm RadPatch on the watch strap, club-logo band, helmet, running shorts, running belt, cap, swim cap, backpack strap or trekking poles, attached with an iron, a hair straightener or as a sticker. A silicone body with a sealed chip gives two layers of waterproofing against sweat, rain, sea water, pool chlorine and the washing machine.
  • One second, no signal needed: anyone nearby holds a current smartphone to the blue cross, and your blood type, allergies, current medication, diabetes emergency information and emergency contacts appear in the reader's language, in any of 27 languages. No battery, no internet, no login, even on a mountain with no signal.
  • Read-only for responders, yours to change: 𝒱WaveMed, for paramedics, emergency responders and fire crews, reads the patch and cannot change anything. The information is encrypted inside the patch, holds only what you chose, and only your four-digit PIN can update it.
  • Before you train, with the free WaveMed app: blood pressure and heart rate as a 30-day trend with notes such as “morning, seated”, blood sugar in mg/dL and mmol/L on a 30-day graph, a medication schedule with reminders and Completed marks, and a supplement log.
  • On a route you have never ridden: hospitals, clinics and pharmacies out to 2.5 km, nearest first, with emergency rooms marked. Switch to satellite view to show where you are, and the country's ride apps open with the hospital already filled in, in around 60 countries.

How to roll it out

  1. Individuals, today (Path A): install the free WaveMed app, enter only the details you choose and hold your phone to the patch to save. Write down the four-digit PIN that appears, and you are done.
  2. Clubs: order club-logo bands or helmet stickers from a minimum quantity and hold one registration session. Three app steps and each member is done.
  3. For a large club or an event entry list, organisers register members in list order with WaveMed Desktop and a reader, using the details each member has agreed to share (Path B).
  4. Before away rides and events, members practise reading each other's patches with the free WaveMed app, and each member updates their own patch with the PIN whenever their medication changes.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really fine with sweat and washing?

A silicone body and a sealed chip give two layers of waterproofing. Sweat, rain, sea water, pool chlorine and the washing machine are all fine, and with no battery there is nothing to charge.

What if I collapse on a trail with no signal?

The patch is read without internet. The person who finds you needs only a current smartphone: most Android phones on 8.0 or newer, or a recent iPhone. With WaveMed or 𝒱WaveMed the screen opens by itself.

Can a stranger see my private details, or change them?

The patch holds only what you chose to show in an emergency. Readers can only read it; changing or erasing it needs your PIN, and apps outside the WaveMed family cannot open it.
